今年も日々培っている英語力や自己表現力向上の一環として、1,2年生による英語スピーチコンテストが開催されました。
1年生は「日本で起きている諸問題」、2年生は「世界に影響を与えた人物」と異なるテーマで、Nativeの先生方の授業内で選ばれた各クラス代表の生徒達が、学年全体の前で発表を行いました。
1年生 ～ Speech Contest ～ 【 1/23(金) 開催 】
| 学年主任の佐藤（征）先生による英語での Welcome Speech をもって始まり、その後、1年11組の生徒2名が司会進行を担当しました。
今年度の1年生のテーマは 「The biggest problems in Japan（日本で起きている諸問題）」 とし、各クラスの代表生徒が登壇しました。
発表では、gender equality（性平等）、lonely death（孤独死）、natural disasters（自然災害） など、日本が直面する社会的課題を取り上げ、学年全体の前で英語による発表を行いました。
生徒たちは、それぞれのテーマについて調べた内容を分かりやすくまとめ、堂々と発表する姿が見られ、英語力だけでなく、社会問題への理解を深める有意義な行事となりました。
生徒たちが堂々と発表する姿勢は、日ごろの勉強の成果です。
今後も、世界で起きている出来事に関心を持ち、自身の考えを自信をもって発表できるよう成長していくことを期待します。

Congratulations to all of the first-year speech contestants!
They have challenged themselves to do something difficult and shown their willpower and skill.
This year, the students had to write a speech about the biggest problem facing Japan.
They chose their own topics and wrote about them well. All first-year students had the choice to perform their speeches live or by video, and I’m happy that so many chose to challenge themselves to do a live speech, which made them eligible for the contest.

This year the first year students wrote speeches about what they believe is the greatest problem facing Japan.
Students thought deeply about their own experiences and did a lot of research in order to write their speeches. Afterward, most students chose to present their speech live in front of their classmates.
From that group, the English teachers chose a representative for each class to compete in the speech contest.
I am impressed by how well the first year students performed this year, each speech was well-written and the students’ performances were all high-quality.
I am looking forward to seeing next year’s competition. |

2年生 ～ Speech Contest ～ 【 1/30(金) 開催 】
今年度の2年生のテーマは「世界に影響を与えた人物」。
生徒たちは、自分が尊敬する人物や世界の偉人について調べ、その人物が与えた影響や自身の考えをまとめ、英語で発表しました。
オープニングアクトでは、吉澤学年主任が空海について、失敗から学ぶことの大切さを交えながら英語で紹介し、生徒の発表へとつながる印象的な導入となりました。
その後、生徒の部がスタートし、以下の人物をテーマにしたスピーチが披露されました。生徒たちの発表では、Canvaのスライドを巧みに活用し、強いメッセージを伝える生徒
ジェスチャーや演技を取り入れ、表現力で聴衆を引き込む生徒
難しい内容を段階的に、分かりやすい英語で説明する生徒
など、それぞれの個性と工夫が光りました。これまで積み重ねてきた英語学習の成果が随所に見られ、高校生活での大きな成長を感じさせる発表となりました。
英語コミュニケーションの授業では、ネイティブ教員の授業を含め、発表やライティングの機会は数多く設けられています。
しかし、本番の舞台に立つ仲間の姿から受ける刺激は格別で、生徒たちにとって非常に大きな学びとなったことは間違いありません。

発音・イントネーション・単語のつながりなどスピーキングのスキルがものすごく上手で、「英語を話せるってこういうことなんだな」と気付かされました。
人前で話すだけでも難しいのに、英語で堂々と話していてすごくかっこよかったです。 |
皆のスピーチを聞いて、とにかく圧倒されました。
発音の綺麗さはもちろん、身振り手振りや表情から「自分の考えを伝えたい！」という熱意がすごく伝わってきて、最後まで聞き入ってしまいました。
同じ高校生がこれだけ堂々と自分の意見を英語で表現している姿を見て、「自分も負けていられない」と刺激を受けました。 |
生徒発表の後は、ジェームス先生による日本語でのスピーチが行われました。
ジェームス先生にとって外国語である日本語を用いて、生徒一人ひとりの心に語りかけるような、熱意あふれる内容でした。
続く講評では、滑川教頭が「挑戦し続ける姿勢」や「自分のポテンシャルを最大限に引き出す経験の大切さ」について期待を込めて話してくださいました。
また、廣谷事務長からは、世界情勢を踏まえつつ、これからの日本を担う若い世代に向けた熱い激励が送られました。
英語は国際言語であり、人と人をつなぐ大切なツールです。
今後も学び続けることで、自らの未来の扉を切り開いてほしいです。
その可能性と希望を強く感じさせてくれる、非常に意義深いセッションとなりました。

Well done to all of the contestants in the second-year speech contest.
This year, they were challenged to write about a person who has impacted the world. Their topic choices were diverse, and I learned a lot from reading them. It was harder than ever to choose the class representatives this year because the quality was extremely high, with some contestants returning from last year’s competition.
The fantastic performances in this year’s contest show how Toyo students keep challenging themselves to grow in different ways. |

For the second year speech contest, students chose a person who had impacted the world to write about.
Many students chose someone whom they admire, because of this there was a large variety of speech topics in each class.
I was happy that students were able to express their various interests and knowledge through this contest.
Each performance in this contest was strong, the second year students expressed themselves clearly in English and were very entertaining.
Personally, I was able to learn more about many different important people by listening to the students’ speeches. |
